The Vallejo High football team returned kickoffs of 84 and 85 yards after Fairfield’s first two touchdowns and added an 85-yard run as the Falcons had their season opener spoiled with a 24-20 loss at Schaefer Stadium, Friday night.
The setback was the 10th straight for Fairfield as last year’s 28-26 victory in the season opener against Vallejo at Corbus Field was the lone win in 2018 for the Falcons.
That ties the third-longest losing streak in school history with 10 straight over the 2016 and ’17 and the 2013 and ’14 seasons.
Mason Durden took over at quarterback and hit a wide open Kha’ron Thrower down the left sideline for a 65-yard touchdown pass to make it 14-12.
The Falcons weren’t through as they went 47 yards on five plays in the second fourth-quarter possession, Oram throwing 40 yards to Thrower to set up a bruising 9-yard run up the middle by Wiggins.
The comeback ended there, however, as the Falcons failed to get a first down.
Oram finished up 6-for-24 for 102 yards and he and Durden combined to throw for 167.
Thrower caught two passes for 105 yards.
