The Fairfield Falcons Varsity Boys team took on the 5 other members of the SCAC conference out at Rush Ranch this afternoon for a beautiful 3 mile race. The Falcons fielded a full team and welcomed up two members from the JV team (the Yousif brothers) and a team member (also team captain) who has been injured most of the season Angel Rodas.
The Falcons ran hard and finished strong as Tyree Lewis dug deep in the final 200 meters to catch and pass a Benicia runner at the finish line to place 10th (18:28). Next was freshman Gabe Estrada who is finding his rhythm at the varsity level, finishing in 16th (19:16). Rodas who has been battling the injury bug for the whole season was ecstatic to be able to finally race. He delivered. Rodas came in 30th (20:53) while passing a handful of runner is the final mile. Rodas is a sophomore and has a bright future ahead. On Rodas’s heels was freshman Seth Saavedra (31st, 20:54). Saavedra is a hard worker and his efforts are showing on the course. Rounding out the top 5 for the Falcons was freshman Mohamed Yousif (Mo) in his first ever varsity race. He sure did not disappoint. Mo raced with a determination and showed that the lights were not to bright at the varsity stage. Mo finished 34th (21:18). Mo’s brother Osman (Osi) finished in 44th (22:11). Both Yousif brothers showed poise and will be fixtures in the seasons to come. The Falcons raced 5 under-classmen (Sophomores: Rodas, Osi, Freshman: Estrada, Saavedra, Mo) in today’s varsity race. These 5 will be the core for the Falcons going into the future.
Next up for the Falcons are league championships hosted by Benicia High School on October 26th. The Falcons look to improve on their race and get Top 3 at league.
